The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes The Adventure of the Illustrious Client The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone The Adventure of the Three Gables The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire The Adventure of the Three Garridebs The Problem of Thor Bridge The Adventure of the Creeping Man The Adventure of the Lion's Mane The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place The Adventure of the Retired Colourman Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's final farewell to his hero was published in 1927, and shows a youthful eagerness for experiment. "Mazarin Stone" is told in the third person as was "His Last Bow", though this time the entire A Team is present, even including Mrs Hudson and Billy. Is this in effect a curtain call? Holmes himself finally puts pen to paper on his own account in "Blanched Soldier" because Watson "has deserted me for a wife", and in "Lion's Mane" because he is now retired to a villa on the Sussex Downs. |
